About

This blog is a documentation of the research for Dimetrodon, a digital moving image and sound work composed from material collected during field trips to the phantom littoral zone marine caves at Hollicombe Beach, Paignton. Here, sea caves are undercut into cliffs of Permian Red Breccia, the cliff top carries the GWR London to Penzance line, and the beach is accessed by foot tunnel through the cliffs and beneath the track. Hollicombe has successive layers of coastal defences, most recent being 14 000 metric tonnes of rock armour stone delivered by rock cargo barge and installed at the base of the cliffs for the Rock Armour Protection Scheme, rendering the marine caves vanished.
